Mark advises to consider these 7 points:

  • Compliment the bride's dress - The groom's suit colour should compliment the bride's dress.  If the dress is white, any colour suit is appropriate except white.  If ivory, consider a navy, brown or grey.  If you would like a black suit consider complimenting the bride's dress with the shirt colour and/or texture.
  • Suit style - you should consider what your personal style is, what the wedding theme is and whether you want a classic looking suit or something more contemporary.

For a Formal Wedding :1 button dinner jacket with peak lapel or shawl collar,Pleated or pique front shirt with turn down or wing collar, a Vest

For a Semi-Formal Wedding : 2 button jacket with notch or peak lapels, Thin or wide lapels, Double vents, Turn down collar with double cuff shirt

For a Cocktail Wedding : Different coloured jacket edging in satin or wool, Shirt with design features such as different coloured collar or cuff, Unique coloured lining

For a Garden Wedding  : 3 piece suit

For a Beach Wedding : More casual fit, Jacket optional

  • The season - Of course you have the standard black, grey and navy suits but different seasons tend to give you different colour options. Spring  - light greys, medium blues & taupe, Summer - tans, light browns & light greys, Winter - Charcoal grey & midnight blue, Autumn - Medium greys & darker browns.
  • Hire, off the rack or tailor -  Hiring your suit is the low cost however a Tailored Suit will be a perfectly fitted, you will receive personal service & Professional advice, have unlimited colour & style options and up to date styles.
  • Wedding style - is your wedding formal, semi formal, cocktail, garden or beach? If formal - Dinner suit or black suit with white shirt and a black or white neck tie or bow tie, bow tie is preferable. If semi-formal - Black, charcoal grey or navy suit with neck tie. If cocktail - All degrees of grey or black with neck tie or open neck. If garden - Navy, browns or light to medium grey go best with the surrounding nature. If Beach - Tans & light browns, white, off white & light grey suits are preferable.
  • Suit fabrics - 100% wool in 150's weight is light and breathes for the wedding and is durable for after wedding use. Both natural and poly blended linens are great for beach weddings.
  • Suit fit - depending on how often you wear a suit usually determines the fit you like. Generally there are 3 options: Tapered, Regular & Loose
